Word Speaker Class


Hey all so it's time for May's Class Preview! This is our series of blogs where we discuss our Classes and their design intentions. With each blog the Class' updated Playbook is going to be released so the World Speaker, our version of the Druid, has received updates!

World Speaker

World Speakers are those who travel the world channelling the power of the World Soul in order to maintain the natural world, forming bonds with the elements to enhance their abilities. World Speakers are a full caster based around Primordial Magic.

Core Aspects: Matches the Druid

Unique Aspects: All Classes gain a unique Inspired action and Mark of Fate effect. For the World Speakers this allows you to spend a Mark of Fate to enable your to aid a failed Test made as part of a ritet. While your Inspired action, lets you perform any Channel the World Soul action.

Elemental Bond

At Level 1 you form a bond with one of the outer elements air, earth, fire, or water. This grants you access to spells tied to that element, buffs damage from these spells and unlocks the first tier bond. As you progress through the class you can increase bonds you currently have or choose to form new ones, each tier of a bond granting greater improvements to your class features and spellcasting. This feature also mentions that GG's can through play and narrative moments allow a World Speaker to form bonds with any element or improve them, though they can never exceed a World Speaker's maximum Bond Tier which improves as you level.

Speaker's Path

Similar to the Eternalist Class this Feature lets you choose a focus, from gaining new Skills and Masteries, to the ability to use Martial Weapons, Medium Armour, and Shields. You can instead gain another Tier 1 Elemental Bond, or gain more spells, or access to Wild Shape early though in a more limited form. As you level each path with further be improved.

Spellcasting

This Feature grants you access to spells using Intuition as your Spellcasting Trait.

Channel the World Soul

At Level 2, you can use this Feature to perform a number of powerful actions, when you gain this Feature you gain Summon Spirit and one other action, though as you Level you gain access to more and more of them. Summon Spirit lets you cast Find Familiar,  Ley Walker lets you teleport along ley lines, Wild Mender grant you some healing abilities, Wild Shaper gives you the Wild Shape action letting you tur into animals, and World Shaper lets you channel elements you have bonds with to aid you in battle.

Wild Shape uses template Stat Blocks where you can apply customisation features called Wild Shape Customisations in order to reflect RP wise the animal you are shifting into.

Elemental Seer

This Feature grants you the freely Prepared Divination spells and Vision DIce which can perform a variety of effects based on which Element you have an Elemental Bond

World Speaker's Circle

At Level 3 you pick an Circle, as your choose a refined aspect of study to focus upon. This Feature unlocks further Tiers at levels 6, 10, and 14. As covered in the Arcanist Class preview, one difference to note from level 6 onwards is you can choose to either progress through a subclass's 4 tiers or to pick up the first tier of a different subclass. 

Feats

This Feature is first gained at level 4 with further unlocks at levels 8, 12, 16, and 19. Importantly each time you would gain this Feature you can increase one Trait's value by 1 AND gain a Feat. 

Elemental Channel

This Feature at Level 5 grants you a new tier 1 elemental bond or lets you increase one to tier 2.  Tier 2 bonds increase the Range of spells with the Element's Associated Spell Tag. In addition you Channel the World Soul Features are modified by your Elemental Bonds.

Primordial Recovery

This Feature lets you as an activity during a Short Rest expend your Channel the World Soul to recover Spell Slots and buffs the healing of your party during a rest.

Wild Speaker

Lets you cast Speak with Animals and Speak with Plants at will without Spell Slots.

Primal Ritualists Knowledge

From 7th level, lets you learn more rites and provides buffs to performing them.

Primordial Ward

This Feature lets you teleport short distances through trees, resist spells that would encourage plants to restrain you, and Advantage against spells that deal damage associated with Elements you are Bonded to.

At Higher Levels

From here on many Features grant you further upgrades to your Paths and Channel the World Soul Features, expanding your elemental bonds, eventually allowing you to Wild Shape into Titanic entities and cast spells whilst in a Wild Shape.

World Speaker Circles

There are a number of Circles that a World Speaker can gain access to. 

Circle of the Cosmos

This Circle grants you Elemental Bonds with the Cosmic Element, focused around Divination and improving your Elemental Visions Feature.

Circle of Decay

This Circle grants you Elemental Bonds with the Fungi Element, focused around improving your physical form, making you hardier and better suited for close quarters combat as you become a home to fungal growths.

Circle of Dreams

This Circle is focused around improving your Channel the World Soul Feature and in travelling to the Realms of Dreams.

Circle of the Elements

This Circle grants you Elemental Bonds with the outer elements, improving your spells and abilities tied to your Elemental Bonds.

Circle of Hosts

Another Circle Focused on improving you form, though this time focused on turning your body into a home of living creatures.

Circle of the Keepers

This Circle grant you a Companion and is focused on supporting your allies especially summoned entities and your Companion.

Circle of the Land

This Circle  is focused on spellcasting and channelling Ley Lines to aid your abilities.

Circle of Life

This Circle grants you Elemental Bonds with the Wood Element, focused around improving your healing abilities as your body becomes more and more treelike.

Circle of the Shaper

This Circle is focused on improving your Wild Shaper Feature.

Circle of Thunder

This Circle grants you Elemental Bonds with the Thunder Element, focused around improving your spellcasting and manoeuverability.
